Abi und was dann? So geht es wohl vielen ... ich habe mich für's Ausland entschieden und so war ich 7 Monate als AuPair an der irischen Westküste.

Was nach 7 Monaten Irland geblieben ist?
My favourite building - a small stone cottage
Imagine you have a small cottage with thick walls built out of dark stones.
You can only find a few small windows, each with a white frame and a crossed sash bar. They all have a red window shutter. It is not a two-part window shutter; they are all out of one part and placed on the left side of the window. In front of every window you can find a green flower box with plants, which can easily resist under strong weather conditions, in it.
The front and back door are both red and they are both half doors. Like they were first used, when the landlords made the folk to pay taxes for each window they had. For saving this taxes the folk used to have half doors, keep the children in, the brute outside and still let the sun and air in.
The roof is traditionally made out of reed.
That is the outside of my cottage.
Now let’s have a look inside.
Since my cottage is a small one, it does not have a lot of rooms with much space.
When you enter the cottage through the front door you will find yourself in the middle of the kitchen. The kitchen is the biggest room of the cottage.
Imagine a house without central heating, instead you will find a fireplace in every single room. As you can imagine, you will find the biggest one in the kitchen. But we still have a cooker heated with wood.
When you enter the cottage you will always smell either wood, coal or peat burning on the fireplace.
The kitchen is, like it always was during earlier times, for living.
On one side of the kitchen there is a living room affiliated, but this one is more for Sundays or for guests and the kitchen for the week.
On the other side of the kitchen you can find a small bathroom with a bath tube in it, and next to it the parent’s bedroom.
The cottage does not really have a second floor, but there is one above the bath- and bedroom. A small wooden staircase leads from the kitchen to the second floor, where you can find the children’s bedroom.
